As much as individuality is the fundamental component for choosing the right pillow, as much as you may have particular needs, except in rare cases, a good pillow that can replace your old pillow certainly exists.

Over the years I have met people who have not changed their pillows since time immemorial, in many cases they have tried to replace it, driven by a hygienist impulse or pushed by their partner, or they just don't want to hear about it and keep it close, or rather, they carry it with them on holiday, it's the first thing they pack.

If you cannot find a worthy replacement for your current pillow, it may not be a problem of the pillow's ergonomics, anatomy or market offer, it could be linked to your character, perhaps you are excessively "attached" to your pillow, more for emotional and material reasons. In the most serious cases, i.e. of longer-lived pillows, we grew up together with the pillow, in this case, the memory or memories of childhood are linked to the pillow, not episodes in particular, but a state, a security, a protection that we don't have in the same way today, the pillow, like Linus' blanket, is something concrete to hold onto to find security, an anchor with the past, a bridge to safe and comfortable land.

Carrying the old pillow with you on every trip and every move is certainly linked to our unconscious, it should be investigated to understand the reasons, but it is not necessarily a real problem, it is still a pleasure to preserve childhood or distant memories in general, it is not always a negative condition to maintain close ties with our past selves.

Choose your pillow

Don't look for your new pillow based on the old one, because what you are looking for is not material, it is not tangible, you will not find the pillow identical to the old one, and you will not be able to replace it completely, a bit like in life.
